Perfect Murder – Part 1

Mrinalini's world of sunshine

Rachel sipped her coffee. It was a rainy evening and she was thinking about the other night she spent at the Barlow Villa. She had been there with her great friend Stephanie, for a party. It was all a bad scene to her at the moment. Rachel closed her eyes and recollected everything that happened that night…

“Let’s go for the party, Rach” cried Stephanie. “C’mon Jason will be there…”

“I don’t care. Do you even know where the party is at? Barlow Villa?! And that place is not nice” said Rachel as she did her bed.

“So, it will be fun”

“Yeah; in your dreams, Steps”

“Okay, this is the last party! I won’t take you anywhere again… I promise you”

Rachel sighed. “Fine; but I’m not dancing with Jason”

“Oh my sweetheart!” jumped Stephanie. “No, you will dance with Jamie! C’mon get ready!”

The girls got ready and…

Perfect Murder – Part 1

The girls got ready and Rachel drove them to the party. The music was loud; people were dancing so hard that the floor was sure to break by Rachel’s instinct. All of a sudden, Stephanie shouted:

“Wyatt! How are you?”

Wyatt was the best gay friend of the two girls. He was the safest boy as they considered him. Wyatt waved wild at them. “What are you girls doing here? Don’t you know? This place isn’t good… Wait I’ll drive you back” scolded Wyatt. “Just a sec”

“No no…” Stephanie caught Wyatt’s sleeves. “We came to experience!”

Wyatt stared dumb. “She forced you right?” he asked Rachel, who just smiled innocently. “Fine, be here but don’t go to the terrace… It’s bad”

“Aye-aye Captain” winked Stephanie. With that, Stephanie pulled Rachel to the dance-floor. After a while of dancing, Rachel left the floor and went to Wyatt, who was busy flirting with a senior.

“Can I sit?” she asked.

“I can’t hear you!” Wyatt shouted.

“I said, CAN I SIT?”

“Yeah, sure… But why are you shouting?”

Rachel laughed and sat close to her friend. She felt tired and drained, and in her watch – it was already way past one.

“Wyatt, I feel like resting… Can I rest here?” she whispered into his ear.

“Yeah, why not; I’m here – you can rest for some time”

“Thanks” Rachel breathed heavily.

Rachel dozed off. All the music and the thumping foot-moves did not disturb her sleep. She was that tired! It was around four in the morning, when things started pacing.

Rachel was woken by a strong shake. She sat up and saw Wyatt. His eyes looked red. “What’s wrong?” said Rachel, softly. “Why are your eyes red? What happened?”

“Where is Stephanie?” he asked, his voice cold.

“I don’t… What happened, Wyatt?”

“I asked you something!” Wyatt now shouted. “Where is that girl?”

“I had left her on the dance-floor… I mean, I saw her last there!”

“You are sure you know no more?”

“Yes, I am sure. But what has happened? Please tell me something”

Wyatt started walking up and down the empty dance floor. It was not really empty – some people were there eating and laughing. But Wyatt was in a state of agony. Rachel gathered herself and went up to him.

“What happened?” she said, more calmly. “Please, tell me, I have a right to know”

Wyatt looked at her for a long minute. “Stephanie’s missing”

Likes and wants – A Short Story

Sam sighed. He was in a deep dilemma which made him sigh after every few minutes. Now the dilemma was such: He was not sure of what to gift his girlfriend Callie – a Teddy bear or a doll. It was Valentines’ Day weekend and Sunday was the ‘V-Day’.

Sam sighed again. Callie was a very special girl to him. Of course she was his girlfriend, but before being in a relationship they were the best of friends. Callie was beautiful and bubbly, while Sam was a studious and serious kind of an individual. And so, as it seems obvious – Sam had no idea of what a girl liked. Plus, he was too proud to ask anyone for help.

“I guess a Teddy Bear will be great” Sam decided in glee.

The shopkeeper looked at Sam with a smirk. “First time huh?” was his question.

“Yep… And I know just what I want”

“You want?! My dear, the gift should be bought as per the girl’s taste not yours! What, are you gifting yourself on her behalf?”

Sam blushed with embarrassment. The man had a point. The gift should be of Callie’s taste and not his. So feeling frustrated he asked the shopkeeper, “What do I do now?”

“Umm, okay let’s try this… When you guys go to a restaurant… What does she order?” the man asked, with interest.

“Hmm, actually, I order on her behalf”

“Okay, well what does she tell you to order?”

“She doesn’t, I do it… She eats whatever I order frankly”

The man looked as though he had seen a ghost. Sam wanted to smile but pressed it back. “I always order fish and chips” Sam said quickly. “Can that help?”

“No, no that can’t help” said the man, looking around. “Okay, do you two go out for a movie?”

“Yeah… Rarely but yes”

“What kind does she like?”

Sam did not answer. Instead he looked everywhere except at the shopkeeper.

“Don’t tell me you make her watch whatever you like?!” shouted the annoyed shopkeeper, making Sam jump out of his skin. “What are you?!”

“I never ask her… She just says yes to everything” said a now meek Sam. “It isn’t my fault”

“It is… You know what? You don’t buy her anything…”

“What are you saying? You have gone insane” shouted Sam.

“No I am not insane… You are! Go, take her and ask her what she likes and wants… Go on! Do whatever she wants” the shopkeeper pushed Sam. “And next Friday, you come and tell me what happened?!”

The Friday came soon. The shopkeeper was dusting his shelves when Sam walked in with a grin.

“Evening” Sam chirped. “How are you?”

“Hello. I’m good… So how was your Valentines’ Day?”

“It was ok…”

“And how’s your special girl?”

“I don’t know”

The shopkeeper stared. “What you said, son?”

“I said I don’t know” blinked Sam, innocently.

“What happened? Tell me it all”

“Well, you said to ask her what she wanted… So I did”

“So, what happened?”

“Umm, actually when she started her list of wants and likes and everything, I realised I can’t be with her”

“What you – “

“I’m okay! In fact Lena is more my kind… So I went off with her”

“And that poor girl… What happened to her?”

“Oh, she’s with my younger brother Kyle… Both are too talkative!”

One of a kind – A Short Story

Belinda began the maths homework. It wasn’t hers; it belonged to her sister Kristi. This wasn’t new, everyday Kristi would get a heap of homework and gave it to her younger sister to complete, for as it seems clear – Belinda was good in studies.

Belinda sighed as she stopped to take a break. She looked herself into the mirror. Her freckled face and smart spectacles made her a joke at school; At least to the ‘Cool Kids’. Belinda lay down on her bed and thought for a long time of why Kristi hated the nerds.

So here’s where her dream began –

Belinda woke up and looked at her watch. 9:35 am. She was very late for the very first time. She rushed to her cupboard and started thinking what she could wear. But much to her astonishment – all her clothes were fit for a 10 year old and not a 17 year old. Still, after finding something that would not show much skin, Belinda had a quick shower and realised that she had no more of her beautiful straight hair – but a curly yet wavy kind of hair now. She was puzzled and did not think much for she had to attend her physics class in time. Not even looking at the mirror once, Belinda nearly flew to her scooter and tried working it. Reaching school as soon as possible, Belinda ran like a mad woman to her class. People in the yard were giggling at the look of her, but she did not care – she was used to it.

“May I come in, Sir” she panted. “I’m extremely sorry to be late”

“Kristi? You don’t take physics… Why are you here?”

Belinda was in shock. That’s why people were making fun of her! Kristi never failed to show skin and she did the mistake to avoid that. Even her new hair and all were exactly like Kristi. Now she realised. She was not Kristi. Kristi was very different from her which was why people loved her. Belinda could never do these, and now she knew why Kristi did not like the nerds – because the nerds don’t like this stuff.

“Belinda… Wake up! Did you even do my homework?” asked a husky voice.

Belinda woke up in a daze. “Oh, it was a dream” she thought,

“Hello? I asked you something. Did you do my homework?” repeated an irritated Kristi.

“Yes… Almost; And Kristi – I hate your life…”

She waited – A Short Story

She was sitting by her window for the last one hour.  It was Kriya’s and Ranvir’s two year anniversary since Ranvir proposed to be her boyfriend.  Kriya had many high hopes for this year’s anniversary because last year they could not celebrate due to their school internals.

However this year, Kriya had everything planned to the tea. She made cake for the first time and had bought her dear boyfriend a watch. Though, she was upset. The reason behind this was such:

Ranvir did not call her since last night. He did not seem to remember their anniversary and Kriya was sure till that moment that he has completely forgotten about their special day. But the thing that was bothering her the most… Was the fact that Ranvir was getting close to one of his tuition’s girl-friends. She didn’t know much about this girl but had heard about her much talked-about beauty.

Kriya looked at her Mickey Mouse wall-clock. 5:45 pm. Ranvir was to be at her place more than an hour ago by now. She became furious and started pacing up and down her balcony.

“How could he?! He forgot… Not a single call to even wish me! Yes, he was forgotten. But where is he?!” she thought to herself.

She picked her cell and gave a ring. He did not answer. Once again she tried but this time Ranvir disconnected her call. Third time, Kriya called – anger swelling high in her mind – but alas, Ranvir switched off his phone. By now Kriya had enough. She was a sensitive girl and this was too much to digest. Kriya hugged the Teddy Bear Ranvir gave her last year on her birthday.  She cried silently.

Almost half an hour went and Kriya was determining to get an answer for this kind of behaviour. She was about to pick up her cell-phone again, when the door-bell rung. For a moment Kriya yelped with joy then remembering her anger, she kept her stern look on. She opened the door and screamed!

There was a basket, in which a small white thing was moving impatiently. Kriya slowly opened it and saw a pretty little pup. She was amazed.

“Okay, Ranvir I got your gift… Please come here now!” Kriya giggled merrily.

Instead a man of about fifty appeared. Kriya was taken aback and was about to close the door when –

“Madam, I’m Ranvir Baba’s servant… He passed away this morning due to a massive heart-attack. He was wanting you to have this, he really loved you…”

A tiring day…!

My morning started at 4:20 am today. Yes, 4:20 am I was up looking like a zombie. Literally my hair was a standing mess! It was pretty dark and I did make up my mind for a nice cup of tea. Mom too till then woke up and we shared the tea lazily. Then I got ready for a morning walk and after that tuition.
Yes, I have early morning tuition 😥 . So continuing, the weather is becoming worst here in Kolkata, so much that people are dying. Shocking huh? But its true. The earth’s going to be finished soon… And I still got homework to complete. Maths, EVS and English. These drive me mad!!!

Long drive at the early hour !

DSCN1019And we hit the road at the earliest hour we could wake up at! The cool breeze was so good. And family? Yeah, they loved it too.

I’m a morning person, love to wake and complete my works in time. But going on long drives is what I actually love. Walks are nice, but I’m laid-back 😛 . Morning tea in the car; morning breakfast and laughter with family; and the beautiful smell of plants and trees. I love that. Its makes me so happy! I could just sit there all day and feel blessed moment by moment. People like to stay indoors, I do too but these little things make me smile so much! And I love Kolkata 🙂 its amazing to be here!

My day with fever

The days when you are ill. It’s terrible…  I mean, so many medicines you have to take time to time. And ‘Take Rest’. God I hate to shut up and sleep all day :/ But yes, the pampering is awesome 😀

At least my family does so. Cakes, chocolates and all the other stuff I love is ordered to make me smile … I love it! People will send their ‘love’ and ‘pity’ messages and seriously I laugh and clap like a wild seal ! 😛 Its because these are the same people who forget my birthday! Rude right?

But I need to rest so will write more tomorrow 🙂

Bengali Legend ;)

Rabindranath_Tagore

Rabindranath Tagore – the King of Bengali Literature. For me at least he is. His birthday is today (9th of May) and my house has gone… well mad! My grandmother is a devotee of Tagore and so garlands of flowers and sweets have arrived to place in front of his picture. Honestly… I love the sweets that have come 😉
Tagore has written about so many topics; topics like summer winter and especially monsoon! He loved monsoon. His poems are beautiful, but his songs are more heart-touching. His stories are nice and his dramas are wonderful! One thing I have noticed – he has not only written ‘dramas’, he has written music and dance dramas. And I have been to a couple of dance dramas and yeah, they are good… I have heard and I’m planning to do more research over it – the time Rabindranath Tagore had lost his favourite child, he wrote his most painful and yet most successful works of art. Why? His own childhood biography is so nice that I being a deep reader could imagine the entire scenario.
Since my childhood, I have been into this craze of music and wonderful stories about Tagore. How he won a noble prize and how some idiot stole it, etc, etc! He was not a freedom fighter with weapons in his hands. Rather, he was one of the best fighters with the most powerful weapon that made him stronger till the day he died – his pen.
He wrote our national anthem. Tagore was the one who gave us Bengalis a new view to express our feelings through our pens. More given into short – He was a mastermind when he had his pen and papers. He will surely live forever J
